General Information
Name: Drak Fat
Class: Vitalic
Type: Fat
Colour: Pale yellow or beige
Smell: Oily, faintly nutty when fresh; rancid if spoiled
Description: Dense fat is rendered down into a sticky, slow-burning grease. It's a favored base for numerous alchemical uses due to its binding nature and moderate combustion resistance. Used in cooking.
Properties: Neutral in taste but carries and enhances other flavours well. Highly stable, even under heat. Acts as a thickener and binder for volatile reagents and herbs. Commonly used in the preparation of healing salves, adhesive solutions, slow-burning flasks, and dense smoke bombs.
Harvesting & Processing
Harvesting: Best harvested from well-fed adult Draks. Extracted by slicing the skin or separating from the organs. A sharp Veldstone blade is required for clean extraction without puncturing the hide.
Processing: This substance is rendered into liquid fat over low heat, then purified by removing solid remains and allowed to cool. It may solidify at low temperatures but can be easily re-liquefied. It is a essential ingredient in most mid-range alchemical kits. When left exposed, it gradually solidifies over four days, making it ideal for prolonged sealing.
Storage: Rendered fat is best stored in Rimeleek clay pots sealed with Vellaflax leaves. For cooking to be used within a month, for alchemical uses lasts very long. Dried sealing lasts for months but can develop cracks and break the seal.
