General Information
Name: Drak Fat
Class: Vitalic
Type: Fat
Colour: Pale yellow or beige
Smell: Oily, faintly nutty when fresh; rancid if spoiled
Description: Dense fat is rendered down into a sticky, slow-burning grease. It's a favored base for numerous alchemical uses due to its binding nature and moderate combustion resistance. Used in cooking.
Properties: Neutral in taste but carries and enhances other flavours well. Highly stable, even under heat. Acts as a thickener and binder for volatile reagents and herbs. Commonly used in the preparation of healing salves, adhesive solutions, slow-burning flasks, and dense smoke bombs.
Harvesting & Processing
Harvesting: Best harvested from well-fed adult Draks. Sliced off of skin or hand-separated from organs. Requires a sharp blade to extract cleanly without puncturing the hide.
Processing: Rendered over low heat into liquid fat, purified from the solid remains and cooled down again. May congeal in cold temperatures but can be re-liquefied easily. A staple reagent in most mid-range alchemical kits. When left exposed slowly solidifies over four days, ideal for prolonged sealing.
Storage: Rendered fat is best stored in Rimeleek clay pots sealed with Vellaflax leaves. For cooking to be used within a month, for alchemical uses lasts very long. Dried sealing lasts for months but can develop cracks and break the seal.
